Over the years the game of basketball has become growingly popular worldwide, particularly among young adults. The various moves used in basketball are very stylish and useful for shaking one’s opponent to the net. Therefore if you are interested in playing the sport, here are a couple of the moves that you should know.

Dribbling basically speaks about when a player is moving while bouncing the ball constantly at the same time. The wraparound is another basketball move where the person with the ball (ball handler) is bouncing the ball with one hand and dribbles it behind his/her back to pass it to his/her opposite hand. This move is primarily used when an opponent (defender) moves in to snatch the ball from the ball handler.

Another basketball move is the spin move where the ball handler turns his/her body to stand between the defender and the ball instead of facing the defender. This move can be performed while the ball handler is dribbling or while playing in a post position. But the abrupt spin can make the ball handler a little confused but if done properly it can successfully throw off the defender.

A crossover dribble is a move where the ball handler changes the pace at which he/she dribbles the ball to puzzle the defender. If the defender is moving in one direction and the ball handler does a crossover, it is hard for the defender to change directions so quickly and in some situations the defender might even fall down which is known as an ankle breaker.

Another move is the behind the back dribble in which the ball handler bounces the ball behind his/her back and changes it to the other hand. This move is different from the wraparound because the ball is not meant to go around the body as it is in the wraparound move. This move is most useful if your teammate is occupied, to get closer to the hoop with minimum space between yourself and the defender, or to outrun the defender.

In a 2 person basketball game there are some moves that are used which are not typically used in a game between 2 full teams as there is more space to run around and fewer defenders to think about. One of these is a give and go move where the ball handler passes the ball to his/her teammate and quickly goes to an open spot to receive the ball. This move is usually used to take the ball closer to the hoop while being able to move quickly to another position.

One more 2 player move is a back door play where a player gets behind the defense, receives the ball and gets an easy score. This move is usually pulled off when the defenders are focused on the ball handler and are not paying attention to the other player or the open space behind them.

Are you an athlete interested in jumping higher? Do you play basketball and wish there was a proven method for increasing your vertical?

Luke Lowrey has launched a groundbreaking program, Double Your Vertical Leap v3.0. Originally called The Vertical Project, Double Your Vertical Leap v3.0 is light years ahead of other programs. Luke Lowery is one of the true experts in vertical jump, having trained NBA and Olympic athletes. He regularly charges $5000 an hour for his services. But his new vertical jump program will set you only about the price of a mid-range video game.

Do some research for yourself on vertical jump programs. Go ahead and read vertical jump reviews of another Double Your Vertical Leap v3.0 review. What you will find that separates The Vertical Project from other vertical jump programs are the guarantees.

Unmatched Vertical Leap Guarantees
I think you’ll find that any jump program worth its salt will offer some kind of guaranteed, but the promises are usually fairly limited or come with more strings than the Vienna Symphony.

When I started researching to write my Double Your Vertical Leap v3.0 Review, I found three distinct and overlapping guarantees.

Need a “what can you do for me right now” guarantee? If you don’t gain 8 – 14 inches, at a minimum in the first 8 weeks, or you’ll get a crisp $100. It’s that simple. That does not include a full refund of your purchase price, which is also included.

Want a “what if I stick with this but peak” guarantee? If any time during the next 6 months, you feel you want you money back — for whatever reason — just let Luke Lowrey know an you get a full refund. No reasons needed.

What about a “I am a serious athlete, I want a max vertical leap” guarantee? You will get a 40-Inch Vertical if you stick with the program for one year, or your purchase price is refunded!

Individualize Workouts
Luke Lowrey has packed a ton of information, including his patented UPN(TM) (Uncompromised Performance Number) system that will having you do the right reps for each exercise every time. The 100% custom program means you do the exercises to maximize gains, not the gains of a “typical” athlete. How is it customized? By using a proprietary mathematical formula that determines exactly how your body will respond to exercise. You’ll get maximum benefits without over training.

Time-Limited Bonuses
For a limited time, Luke Lowrey has included some special bonuses, which add up to over $900. Curious to find out a little-know, dirty Russian secret that can pack on inches in weeks? Want to get two free modules (street value over $195 each) that help you improve your vertical leap before and after workouts? What about a secret ingredient that will blast your vertical leap ($79 value). Those and other bonuses are available if you hurry.

Instant Download
Do you remember when you had to wait to receive a package in the mail? Those days are over. With The Vertical Project v3.0, you’ll get instant access to a wealth of vertical jump information. After registering, you’ll be able to download the e-book to your desktop and start working out immediately.

Look, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain with the Double Your Vertical Leap System v3.0. Make a choice today to be the athlete you always wanted to be. All of us need help now and then to be our best. All you need to do is ask Luke Lowrey to help you for the next 8 weeks. Choose to succeed today.

The NBA Conference Finals are usually a good time. Two expected heavyweights and two surprises in the NBA’s final four should continue that trend. Even better, without the Cleveland LeBronaliers, we’ll be treated to four complete teams that don’t run a “stand around and watch that guy” offense. Ok, maybe 3 ½ depending on how Kobe is feeling. Let’s take a look…

Eastern Conference (4) Boston Celtics vs. (2) Orlando Magic

Favorite Player: Jameer Nelson. He’s a Philly boy and I still haven’t gotten over how amazing he was for St. Josephs in 2004. More importantly, it’s been nice to see him redeem himself for his disastrous performance in last year’s NBA Finals. Nelson was hurt and shouldn’t have played anyway, but when he did he was hard to watch. He won’t be the best point guard in the series, but unlike his counterpart, Nelson can hit an open jump shot.

Rooting For: I honestly haven’t decided yet. Heading into the Eastern Conference playoffs I was rooting for Dwayne Wade as long as he was around (only 5 games) and then I expected to swing my allegiance to the Magic. However, the second game of the Boston/Cleveland series changed my plan. In the second half of that game I tweeted: “On the verge of jumping on Celtics’ bandwagon for this series. Cavs are whiners, Ray Allen & Rondo are nasty, and KG’s faces are priceless.” At this point I’m 50/50 and could easily root for either team. It will probably come down to one team or one player doing something I don’t like and pushing my support the other way. Until then, I’m rooting for Tiger Woods to show up to a game in Orlando and Glen “Big Baby” Davis trampling him like he did that kid in last year’s conference semi.

What/who will be the Difference: Orlando is much deeper than Boston, and Boston can’t really match up with Dwight Howard (who can?). Although, if they can get Howard in foul trouble (somewhat easy to do) that will certainly limit the advantage he provides. Additionally, the Celtics will need another monster series from Rajon Rondo and will need much, much more from Paul Pierce than they got in the semis against Cleveland. Another important note is that the Magic hasn’t lost in the 2010 playoffs yet. I believe this has more to do with their opponents, but either way, it will be interesting to see how they respond when they are really tested for the first time in the playoffs. Regardless, it’s Orlando’s series to lose. I’m just thankful that Anderson Varejo doesn’t have to miss anymore runners and Mo Williams doesn’t have to go M.I.A. in the second half anymore.

Notables: The ESPN crew of Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, and Mike Breen are terrific. You may argue they’re annoying, but I love them. As a group, they’re highly entertaining, exciting, and brutally honest. *The point guard matchup will be fun too. As I mentioned, I love Jameer Nelson, but Rajon Rondo is a real treat to watch. His quickness is virtually un-guardable and his game IQ translates to success. However, I still laugh when the defense gives Rondo open 15 footers knowing he won’t take them because he’s a subpar shooter. If Rondo ever gets a consistent jump shot, look out. *The battle at center will also be a close one…although not in a basketball sense. Both Dwight Howard of the Magic and Kendrick Perkins of the Celtics are two of the biggest whiners you’ll find in the NBA. Thankfully, there’ll be a box of tissues courtside just in case either player loses control. *And finally, Kevin Garnett’s faces. Many people hate them and think he’s obnoxious. Garnett is obnoxious, but I love his “I’m clinically insane” faces and the intensity he brings to the game. Trash talking, gusto, leadership; Garnett brings it all. What’s not to like?

Prediction: Magic in 6. Why? I don’t know.

Western Conference (3) Phoenix Suns vs. (1) Los Angeles Lakers

Favorite Player: Adam Morrison. Morrison is the most underrated player in the league. He’s the purest shooter, grittiest defender, and has the heart of a champion. If I were to pick one pla… just kidding. That was fun though, no? I really don’t have a favorite player in this series. If I had to choose, I would go with Nash because of his toughness. He’s also a phenomenal (and underrated) shooter, great leader, and an amazing point guard. I would probably like him more if he didn’t send the Spurs home. By the way, if Nash offered to shake my hand as he exited the court after a game, I would respectfully decline. How many times does he have his hands on the ball, another player, the floor, or his hair before he elegantly licks his fingers prior to a free-throw? There’s no way I’m touching his hands. No way.

Rooting For: I’m more likely to root for a sequel to Doubt than either of these teams. I despise the Lakers for three reasons. 1. Phil Jackson-can’t stand him. 2. Pau Gasol-can’t stand him. 3. Phil Jackson-I REALLY can’t stand him. I guess with that said, I will be rooting for the Phoenix Suns. While rooting for Phoenix won’t be enjoyable, it would be nice for Grant Hill and Nash to reach the finals. Although seeing Amare Stoudemire and Jared Dudley (whom I’ve disliked since his Boston College days) along for the ride will be tough to swallow. I’ll also spend a little energy rooting for Kobe. He’s a class one a-hole but so was Jordan, and it’s hard not to admire his will to win. If LeBron had half of Kobe’s will, the Cavs would still be around.

What/who will be the Difference: Andrew Bynum and Gasol will make life very difficult for the Suns. Their size and power down low should control the tempo of the game and limit the Suns’ fast break opportunities. If Bynum and Gasol are effective, Phoenix will need to shoot a high percentage and limit their turnovers just to hang around. While the Spurs lacked a superior defender, the Lakers have Ron Artest and if need be, Kobe. Furthermore, Phoenix won’t get as many second opportunities as they did in their prior series because of LA’s size, so again, it’s important they’re shooting above 50%. Similar to the eastern final, this series is the Lakers’ to lose. To advance, Phoenix must find a way to goat Kobe into taking too many shots and ignoring LA’s obvious advantage down low.

Notables: TNT’s pregame, halftime, and postgame coverage is infinitely better than ESPN’s because Charles, Kenny, and CWebb make you feel like you’re hanging out with your friends. Listening to Doug Collins during the game is fun too. It’s like when your dad speaks at the dinner table-everyone stops to listen. I love Doug Collins. I secretly wish he were my second grandfather. *To protect my TV and yours as well, I’ve already written the NBA requesting they limit airtime given Adam Morrison’s mustache. I’m not sure what look he’s going for, but “creepy pedophile guy” is the one that comes to mind. Or the Sydney Crosby look, whichever you prefer. *Channing Frye will undoubtedly shoot less than 30% from beyond the arc this series for two reasons. 1. He shot 54% to knock out the Spurs. And 2. I picked him for our playoff competition. *Last but not least, good old Jack Nicholson. I don’t understand why referees take grief from him. There must an agreement with the league or something. If he were any other fan, he would’ve been ejected a zillion times by now. I’m a devoted Sixers fan with a crush on the Spurs, but I will blindly follow any coach that draws up an inbound play right in front of Jack where the ball is inbounded and then immediately chucked back to the inbounder, only the inbounder ducks and the ball sails into Jack’s face. That’s not too much to ask, right?

Prediction: Lakers in 7. While the Suns have an aura about them, I don’t think it’ll be enough, so picking LA in 7 makes me appear like I know what I’m talking about.

LeBron James

As we all know, LeBron once again made an early exit from the postseason a la Alexander Ovechkin. Most of the writers I’ve read have covered all the significant points of LeBron’s latest failure. I agree with just about all of them too, especially the ones that detailed LeBron’s nonchalant demeanor as his season and tenure in Cleveland went down in flames. Since I have no original thoughts on the matter, I thought I would gloat and share this little piece I wrote up in March for a gentleman that wanted my opinion on LeBron James’ chances at a 2010 title. I missed on the Celtics part, but I think I was right on about the Cavaliers…

Although we continue to ignore the truth, the seventh year of the LeBron James experience will end in similar fashion to its predecessors. It’s hard to argue otherwise too. Yes, LeBron James is the most gifted player in the NBA. Unfortunately, he’s also the only premiere player on his roster. We’ve seen this screenplay before: Incredibly talented superstar surrounded by average contributors. While it may make for an enjoyable regular season, the ending is anticlimactic, predictable, and downright lame.

Although a repeat ending is imminent, mainstream media will undoubtedly spend the next few weeks convincing you and I that James and the Cleveland Cavaliers have enough to claim the title. Don’t listen. As good as he is, James doesn’t have the firepower to overcome the depth of his competitors. Shaquille O’Neal hasn’t been relevant in four years. Antawn Jamison came to town a year too late. Even Mo Williams and Delonte West are struggling. Just to get out of the East, the Cavs will need to get by the Orlando Magic and maybe even the Boston Celtics.

James can handle the decrepit Celtics, but Orlando’s depth may derail Cleveland’s championship train. Furthermore, even advancing past the conference finals would match James against one of the heavy hitters from the Western Conference. Checkmate. There are just too many obstacles to overcome. LeBron’s teammates won’t be up to the challenge.

Great players lead teams to championships, but rarely carry them entirely. Kobe Bryant had Pau Gasol. Paul Pierce had Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. Even the great Michael Jordan had Scottie Pippen. LeBron’s alone. That isn’t going to change, at least not in time for the 2010 playoffs. ”

It should be obvious how important defense in basketball is. Like offense, it is one word associated with the game that is a topic all its own. It is so crucial that fans scream it all the time when their team doesn’t have ball possession. Despite the enduring presence of this word, not all novice players and coaches focus on it.

One possible reason why the concept is being downplayed is the overwhelming obsession over scoring more points. Fame and maybe fortune await the player who can shoot the most. Shallow play analysis further stress who has made the most points. This is when people forget that in most cases, guarding the team with the ball is just as important.

It is through defensive basketball strategies that a team gets to limit the points of an opposing team. This means, a team doesn’t need to score more than a hundred points to win, they just need to make sure the other team doesn’t score at all. Here are three tips that can help put teams on top of the game.

#1- Stance and balance are everything.

You need to adopt the right form and position to prevent an opponent from scoring and to maintain balance. Moreover, the right stance also puts you in the best position to steal the ball when you can. The basic stance in proper basketball defense is to bend the knees in such a way as to put the player’s head level to the offensive player’s chest. Feet should be planted shoulder’s width apart. By choosing this position, a player is least likely to lose balance even when pushed. Feet and hand facing the dominant hand of the other player should be placed a little forward to prepare for action when there is an opportunity to steal.

#2- Guard the ones without the ball.

When nearly everyone’s eyes are on the ball handler, it’s easy to forget all other players on the court. This can be one of the worst mistakes any team can make. Defensive basketball goes beyond focusing on the person who has it. The responsibility stretches over every other player. Once the ball gets passed around, less guarded teammates can take a good shot.

#3- Put pressure on the opponent.

As a game stretches, it gets tempting to grow lax. This may reflect on player facial expression and loosened stance. A defending team shouldn’t make the mistake of appearing tired of lazy in front of an offensive team. From start to finish, the focus should be on putting pressure on the opponents. Pressure can be exhibited in a variety of ways ranging from adopting intimidating facial expressions to adopting a strong forward hand and foot position to limit an opponent’s ability to move, pass the ball or shoot.

These are only some of the basic tips for great defense in basketball. These however should be more than enough to stress the importance of this one element. Just as beginners need to hone their shooting skills, they should also be pushed to defend better.

Andrew Tyler Hansbrough was born in November of 1985 and began going by his middle name of Tyler rather than his first name of Andrew at a young age. As a youth growing up in Poplar Bluff, Missouri (population 17,000) in the southeastern portion of the state near the Arkansas border Tyler showed tremendous basketball potential.

Long before Tyler was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in the first round (number 13 overall pick) of the 2009 NBA Draft and even before he set basketball records with the storied University of North Carolina (UNC) Tar Heels basketball program he honed his game in his small southern Missouri hometown where he was born and raised. As a star basketball player for the Poplar Bluff High School Mules Tyler led his team to back to back state championships.

Despite the relatively small size of the city of Poplar Bluff, Missouri the basketball program competes in the largest classifications in the state. This is largely because in spite of the small size of the city of Poplar Bluff with only one high school and students being drawn from the surrounding area there is still a sizable student body. As a junior and senior in high school Tyler led his school to back to back state championships in Class 5 in Missouri.

The championships for the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons were played and won in the Hearnes Center in 2004 and Mizzou Arena in 2005 on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. The Hearnes Center opened in 1972 and served as the home court for the University of Missouri Tigers basketball teams until its closure in 2004. The brand new Mizzou arena replaced the Hearnes Center and opened in November of 2004. High school state championship basketball games in Missouri were played for years at the Hearnes Center and are now played at Mizzou Arena.

The state championship that Tyler won in March of 2005 was particularly noteworthy because he led his underdog team to a victory in the championship game against Vashon High School. Vashon High School is a dominant basketball school from St. Louis, Missouri that has won 11 boys basketball state championships. When the Poplar Bluff Mules, led by Tyler Hansbrough, squared off against the Vashon High School Wolverines in early 2005 for the state championship Vashon entered the game undefeated and as the number one ranked team in the nation.

For his efforts in high school basketball which included averaging over 28 points per game and more than 13 rebounds per contest as a senior Tyler was twice recognized as a first team All-State basketball player. The high school success that Hansbrough enjoyed provided him the opportunity to choose to play for any college basketball program that he wanted. The young man sorted through scholarship offers from storied programs like the University of Kentucky, University of Kansas, and Duke before ultimately deciding to play for Coach Roy Williams at the University of North Carolina (UNC) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Jeff, the author of this article, enjoys watching the determination and hustle that Tyler brings to the sport of basketball. Jeff hopes that when Tyler plays other sports like golf that he brings a more relaxed demeanor to the course. If Tyler plays golf he surely has a University of North Carolina golf bag. A famous alum like Tyler would surely be embarrassed to be seen with anything other than a Tar Heel blue UNC golf bag.

The NBA Playoffs are about to start and quite naturally the biggest question bothering fans from around the world is who will win the title? Kobe or Lebron? Perhaps the Orlando Magic or Phoenix Suns can get into the mix?

We have to admit the fact that there is a lot class about the Lakers. The other teams in the NBA simply don’t have their shine, brilliance and style. There is something about the air in Hollywood that’s probably making the LA Lakers as classy as their are. Everyone loves watching Kobe play. Of course a lot of people hate him too, but what do they know about basketball?

No other team in the NBA can win as graciously as the Lakers can, they are fun to watch and when their game goes smoothly, they can get unstoppable. But the reality is that we haven’t seen much of that in the current 2009-2010 season. Yes they still managed to have the best record in the West but they went through some really bad losses this year, especially in the last month with Andre Bynum out. They got totally smacked up by the young OKC Thunder side and these teams will actually meet in the first round of the Playoffs this year. At some points of this game the Lakers were down by as many as 30 points! The Lakers also lost at home to a wounded Blazers side playing without their leading scorer Brandon Roy and without their starting center, and that happened right at the end of the season.

Now i know a lot of people would say that the LAL are just holding their breath for the important games in the Playoffs and Bynum is out, but by looking at how Kobe has been playing, Laker fans have every right to be worried about their side.

Kobe is lacking the energy that he used to have and he is no longer able to dominate games like in his twenties. He is still a clutch player and the final seconds of each game are again “Kobe-Time” but the energy is not there. And for the Lakers to be able to go through this year’s extremely competitive Western Conference and then have the power and energy levels to beat Lebron and Co, they would need a GREAT Kobe. The problem is that Kobe’s greatness looks like a thing of the past now…

Learning how to jump higher in basketball is something all basketball players want to do in order to improve their overall game. If you can jump higher, not only are you able to dunk but you are also able to block shots better and get rebounds and shoot better. If you would like to increase your vertical jump then check this out.

Before I tell you how to jump higher in basketball there is a huge factor that will ultimately determine how successful you are, and that is your attitude. If you stay committed to a routine and put the work in consistently then you will get a huge vertical, period. If you slack off and do things not 100 per cent then you won’t get the results you’re looking for. Ready? Ok let’s go!

Strength training is a vital component in your quest to improving your vertical leap. If you are mainly using your legs to jump higher then it makes sense to build up and strengthen the muscles in your legs, in particular your fast twitch muscle fibres which gives you more explosion. To do this, you need to lift heavy weight and perform high intense workouts.

My favourite strength training exercises are squats and calf raises. Squats will mainly target your quads whilst calf raises will obviously target your calves, which are the two most important muscle groups in the jumping process. I suggest you do strength training no more than 3 times a week to give your muscles time to recover. If you train right then your muscles should be pretty sore the next day!

Now whilst strength training will build up muscle, plyometrics are important to improve your flexibility and movement when you jump. You should perform plyometric exercises a few times a week on the days you are not strength training. Remember that repetition is a great way to increase you vertical because your muscle builds up memory thus moves more efficiently and easily.

When I was learning how to jump higher in basketball one of the less common factors I didn’t realise was so important was diet. Simply by consuming a high protein diet whilst I was training I was able to massively speed up the process in which I gained muscle and this really improved my vertical leap.

Now to really discover how to jump higher in basketball not only do you need the right exercises, but you need to understand the science behind jumping otherwise all your efforts will be for nothing.

Tyler Hansbrough was a highly recruited college basketball prospect as a high school student from the state of Missouri of who won two boys basketball state championships. After considering basketball scholarship offers from numerous storied basketball programs such as Duke University, the University of Kansas, and the University of Kentucky Tyler ultimately decided to play hoops for the University of North Carolina (UNC) Tar Heels.

When Tyler arrived on the Chapel Hill, North Carolina campus he was greeted by famed head coach Roy Williams. Coach Williams made a name for himself as a long time respected head basketball coach at the University of Kansas before returning to his alma mater in 2003 as the head coach at UNC. Shortly after returning to the college that he graduated from in 1972 Roy Williams won his first national championship with the Tar Heels in 2005. Over the course of the four years that Tyler spent at UNC Hansbrough and Roy Williams formed a bond about as close any athlete and coach can have. When Hansbrough had his jersey retired in February of 2010 before a UNC vs. Duke rivalry game the ceremony brought tears to the eyes of Coach Williams.

As a freshmen on the UNC Tar Heels basketball team Tyler made an immediate impact. The first year star finished the season as the second leading scorer in the Atlantic Coach Conference (ACC) when he trailed only J.J. Redick of Duke, a player that would set the all-time record for points scored in the ACC in 2006 before Hansbrough would later break it in 2009. For his efforts Tyler was not only chosen as the conference freshmen of the year but also became the first player ever to be selected as a unanimous choice for first team All ACC as a freshman. The Sporting News even made Tyler a first team All-American after his first season.

Tyler would play three more seasons and be named to first team All-American lists for each of his four years. Despite being recognized after his junior season in 2007-2008 as the national player of the year Tyler decided to forego the NBA Draft and come back for his senior season in hopes to winning an elusive national championship with Coach Roy Williams. On April 6, 2009 Tyler Hansbrough and Roy Williams achieved their goal by winning a national championship together when they defeated Michigan State University in a game played in Detroit, Michigan.

Jeff, the author of this piece, imagines that even though Tyler now lives in Indianapolis as a member of the Indiana Pacers of the NBA that he still finds time to get together with Roy Williams. Perhaps the two play golf together. If they do it’s likely that Roy has a Carolina blue UNC golf bag and Tyler probably has his own University of North Carolina golf bag.

Every basketball coach wants their team to have all the essential skills for the game. Therefore, basketball fitness training is vital. Training is needed in all areas, especially agility. It is the ability to move one’s body position accurately and quickly without losing balance.

Basketball Fitness and Agility Training

Basketball agility drills improve coordination, speed, quickness, and most of all, the ability to change the direction without any deceleration. This drill, together with a speed training program – super shuttle drill, has great benefits during the game.

Set up a square near the basket and mark the corners with a tape. Mark ‘A’ at the bottom right corner, ‘B’ at the top right corner, ‘C’ at the lower left, and ‘D’ at the top left. Start the team under the basket with their backs facing the square and the court. Then, have the players scuffle backwards with hands in a defensive position until they reach point A. Next, sprint backwards from point A to B, and minimize the time taken to change direction.

Next, have them face the court. With the hands still in defensive position, sidestep from point B to the starting point. Jump to touch the backboard or the net, and repeat back shuffle from starting point to point C. Sprint forward from point C to D. With their backs facing the court, sidestep to the start position. Jump to touch the backboard or the net. Do this about 6 to 8 times with about 60 to 90 seconds breaks in between.

Weaving in and out is great for basketball fitness agility training. Place 4 markers about 3 yards apart, in a straight line. More markers are to be placed in between the first set 3 yards to the left. Spring to the first marker and sidestep to the second one at a time, leading with the left leg. Next, side shuffle to the next marker with the right leg. Repeat until finish. They are moving in a zigzag manner in this basketball fitness training exercise. Repeat this 8 times.

The above training helps the players to take control of the game. Agility is very important, and these exercises help to condition the players for that important game.

Basketball is a popular sport and has taken the worlds by storm because of its athletic nature. Everyone can hoop against a wall and practice alone or with a small group of friends.

Basketball was originally invented by Canadian coach named Dr James Naismith. He was asked to create an activity to entertain trainees the YMCA Training College during winter.

Inspiration for the game came from a childhood game called ‘duck on a rock’ which was played by throwing a rock at another rock on top of which was an object.

The first basketball game was played in 1892 played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets suspended from walls of YMCA gym. After ten years, the open ended basket was designed. YMCA in Springfield Massachusetts is the home if basketball and was through it that basketball spread across the US.

In 1929, the ball was redesigned to give it more ounce than a soccer ball. It was also made lighter and bigger. National Basketball Association was formed in 1949 when the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League were merged.

The most famous team in the history of basketball is the one that does not compete, the team called Harlem Globetrotters is a showcase team which entertain spectators with their skills.

College basketball really attracted the most interest in the middle of 20th century and made it possible for pro-basketball to develop into franchise it is today.

Basketball had become very popular after World War II and the FIBA World Championship was created in 1950. It was originally created with 10 national teams grew to 26 in 2009 and is expected to grow further. Argentina won the World Championship and USA finally won the coveted trophy in 2002.

Korfball and Netball are derived from Basketball although the rules are changed in case of male and female or mixed teams.
